Thursday 27th – NO SWEAT present… Calum Ross & The Scarlets | Huwie Price & Band | Zervas & Pepper | Brian Humphreys

No Sweat has been promoting local acoustic, folk and chilled-out music in Cardiff over the past year. Usually a weekly night at Cardiff Arts Institute, taking place every Wednesday, No Sweat will be putting on a few extra shows this January and taking part in Twenty4Eleven Festival at The Globe.

CALUM ROSS & THE SCARLETS

Calum Ross & the Scarlets are a powerful band from Cardiff. Their hook-laden pop echoes back to the 60’s when records were three minutes long with killer choruses. Influenced by Motown, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, and Buddy Holly, the sound is vintage… with a modern crunch. Calum’s unique voice leads the four piece from blistering bubblegum pop to soulful blues. Whether at festivals or intimate gigs, you can expect an absolute blinder.

HUWIE PRICE & BAND

Huwie is a thoroughly nice chap. He’s also an amazingly talented songwriter and blues guitarist and will be performing this evening with a small band supporting him. A ‘finely accomplished’ singer songwriter, Huwie has a growing reputation on the UK acoustic/ singer songwriter scene and recently won the public vote to support Little Comets when they played a No Sweat show at Cardiff Arts Institute.

ZERVAS & PEPPER

Zervas & Pepper are an enchanting duo, inspired by all things Woodstock. Formed in 2007 ‘Z&P’ were born from Cardiff-based singer/songwriters Paul Zervas and Kathryn Pepper’s shared love of the music of the 1970’s West-coast/Californian Folk-rock scene.
After 2 successful introductory EPs released on their own independent ‘Zerodeo Recordings’ label Z&P are now currently recording their long-awaited debut album, due to be released in early 2011.

BRIAN HUMPHREYS

Brian Humphreys writes thoughtful, Americana-tinged songs that conjour up images of Steinbeck’s 1930’s America, Kerouac’s long soul searching road trips and the melancholic wistfulness of Nick Drake. Summer 2010 saw the release of his debut solo album Holy Water, recorded at Mwnci Studios in West Wales.
